House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced Monday he will introduce a resolution in support of the protesters in Iran who are demonstrating against the regime.

Beyond symbolic, this vote will require the Democrats to go on the record as either in support of the Iranian protesters, or not. The American and Iranian people both deserve to know who stands on the side of freedom. There should be no “buts” when it comes to vocalizing support for those fighting against oppression and for democracy.
I'm introducing a resolution in support of the protestors in Iran. The world is watching, and the people of Iran need to know that they are not alone in this pivotal moment.— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) January 13, 2020
The minority leader was obviously moved by this viral video of Iranian students refusing to walk directly over the American flag in Tehran yesterday.
The Iranian government doesn’t want the world to see this. Powerful movement happening among the people. https://t.co/WVOzZvgR4X— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) January 13, 2020
Today, the voices of Iranians standing up and denouncing the corruption of an oppressive regime are echoing throughout the world. Your bravery is inspirational.— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) January 11, 2020
The United States stands with you as you protest for the freedom and government you rightfully deserve.
President Trump has voiced a consistent message of solidarity with the protesters in Iran, conveying his support for their fight for freedom, while warning Iranian regime forces not to shoot unarmed civilians.
To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I've stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 11, 2020
