House Democrats on Tuesday blocked a vote on a resolution introduced by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, California Republican, that expressed support of anti-government protesters in Iran and condemned Iran’s role in the downing of a Ukrainian civilian aircraft last week.

By refusing to bring the resolution introduced Monday to a vote, Democrats effectively threw support to an otherwise isolated Iranian regime that in recent weeks has killed over 1,500 protesters and shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane.
Yet to be seen is if the leaders in Iran will interpret blocking the resolution as tacit approval for a new crackdown on thousands of Iranian citizens already in the streets fighting for freedom and democracy in their country.
What a disappointment —Democrats just blocked a vote on a resolution supporting the Iranian protestors.— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) January 14, 2020
This is not the time for partisan politics. This should be a time for the US Congress to speak with one voice to condemn an Iranian regime that kills its own people.
