Michigan gun-rights advocates are looking to discourage gun-grabbing politicians by pushing for passage of a newly proposed Second Amendment sanctuary resolution.
Sponsored and introduced by 15 state representatives last week, House Resolution No. 219 seeks to declare Michigan a Second Amendment sanctuary state, joining with comparable resolutions being pushed at the local level by several counties.
Michigan joins a movement that has picked up steam recently and continued to spread through other states across the country, including New Mexico, Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and several others.
Taking Aim: A House resolution introduced Tuesday calls on Michigan to become a Second Amendment sanctuary state, affirming “the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.’’ Similar resolutions have been introduced in Michigan counties. @wzzm13 pic.twitter.com/xbRE1KCUVQ— John Hogan (@JohnHoganWZZM) January 22, 2020
Reminding legislators of their oath, the new resolution states, “Upholding the oath of office in Michigan requires public servants to refuse to participate in the enforcement of unconstitutional restrictions on the Second Amendment and attempt to defend individuals from unlawful enforcement of such restrictions."
"Resolved by the House of Representatives, that we declare Michigan a Second Amendment sanctuary state and fully affirm its support of the rights ensured and protected by the constitutions of the United States and Michigan, including the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms."
