VIDEO MIX: Historic flooding of the Pearl River affects thousands in Jackson, Mississippi and surrounding areas

Mississippi is bracing for more flooding as rising waters caused by days of heavy downpours swell rivers in the state capital of Jackson, causing fears to rise with the river amid speculation it will breach its banks and threaten thousands of homes.

Governor Tate Reeves declared a state of emergency due to the “historic, unprecedented flood” that was not expected to crest before Monday. "This is a precarious situation that can turn at any moment," Reeves said at a press conference Sunday morning. "It will be days before we're out of the woods and the water starts to recede."

Mississippi is in a state of emergency Monday morning after historic levels of flooding damaged at least 200 homes near the state capitol of Jackson. At least four people had to be rescued from their homes as the Pearl River’s rising water flooded entire neighborhoods. Omar Villafranca is in Jackson to report on the latest damage.
