AWKWARD: MSNBC's Chris Matthews confuses Democrat Senate candidate Jaime Harrison with Republican Senator Tim Scott

In an embarrassing case of mistaken identity, MSNBC personality Chris Matthews referred to Senator Tim Scott, video of whom was playing on screen, as Democrat Senate candidate, Jamie Harrison. Matthews was set to interview the candidate, who is vying to run against incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham, live on his show.

“Jaime, I see you standing next to the guy you're going to beat right there, maybe, maybe, maybe, Lindsey Graham,” said Matthews segueing to the interview. It got real awkward from there.

    Watch the video below.

Matthews clearly mistook a live video feed of the Trump rally in Charleston, in which Sens. Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham were shown standing side by side, for earlier recorded video of Harrison standing with Graham instead. It's a honest mistake.

Thankfully for Matthews, he's not a conservative commentator!

Read the full transcript from the segment below.

Matthews: Jaime I see you standing next to the guy you're going to beat right there, maybe, maybe, maybe, Lindsey Graham.

Panelist 1: Tim Scott. Tim Scott. [nervous laughter]

    Matthews: Jaime?

    Panelist 2: Tim Scott.

    Matthews: Who's that?

    Panelist 1: That's Tim Scott.

Matthews: Who? I'm sorry. Ohh. The other senator, Tim Scott. What am I saying? Big mistake. Mistaken identity, sir. I'm sorry. Tell me how you're gonna beat Lindsey, everyone knows Lindsey.
