President Trump’s roller coaster approval ratings are back to their all-time high, this time thanks to the record support of independents, a group he needs to win reelection but has struggled with. The latest Gallup survey found that 49% of adults approve of the president’s job, up from 43% two weeks ago. Trump has never crossed 49% in the Gallup survey.

Helping Trump, said Gallup, was the support of independents. “Most of the variation in Trump's recent job approval rating is among independents. In the current poll, 47% of independents approve of the job he is doing as president, the highest Gallup has measured for the group to date. 93% of Republicans and 8% of Democrats approve of the job Trump is doing,” said Gallup.
96% Approval Rating in the Republican Party. Thank you! Also, just out, highest ever Approval Rating overall in the new Gallup Poll, and shows “Trump beating Sleepy Joe Biden.”— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 2, 2020
Wonderfully polarized....latest Gallup poll 30th April 2020. 93% vs 8%. I wonder what % of the people polled are independent. positive trends for Trump. #politics #Election2020— Asi De Silva (@asidesilva) May 2, 2020
Trump back up to 49% approval in Gallup (an all-time high). Six-point jump from 43% approval on Apr 15. Just spitballing, but as daily death rate slows and more states open & economy improves heading into the fall, hard to see a sizable drop the other way: https://t.co/rbOtL68oi9— Joe Concha (@JoeConchaTV) May 1, 2020
