Britain on Tuesday bowed to US pressure and approved the phased removal of Chinese telecoms giant Huawei from its 5G network despite warnings of retaliation from Beijing. The policy reversal hands a major victory to US President Donald Trump’s administration in its geopolitical and trade battle with China.
“This has not been an easy decision, but it is the right one for the UK telecoms networks, for our national security and our economy, both now and indeed in the long run,” Britain’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Oliver Dowden told parliament.
“By the time of the next election, we will have implemented in law, an irreversible path for the complete removal of Huawei equipment from our 5G networks.”

Huawei 5G banned by the UK. The West is wise to the CCP’s grand strategy and is properly excising the cancerous tumors from their data networks. Despite heavy coercion, lobbying, and monetary influence, Huawei, ZTE, and all CCP companies will be banned. https://t.co/KYCdVCR3bN— 🇺🇸Kyle Bass🇺🇸 (@Jkylebass) July 14, 2020
The UK government's decision is a step in the right direction, imposing limits on further Chinese spying on British communications.
