Tommy Tuberville and President Trump were the winners in Tuesday’s Republican Senate primary runoff in Alabama. Tuberville, a first-time politician and former Auburn University football coach, defeated former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions thanks, in part, to an endorsement from the president. The Associated Press projected Tuberville as the winner in the election about 90 minutes after the polls closed in Alabama.

Trump tweeted about the shocking blowout Tuesday evening: “Wow, just called! Tommy Tuberville WON big against Jeff Sessions. Will be a GREAT Senator for the incredible people of Alabama. Doug Jones is a terrible Senator who is just a Super Liberal puppet for Schumer and Pelosi. Represents Alabama poorly. On to November 3rd.”

Jeff Sessions opened the door for illicit, destructive Mueller probe. He cowered when this president—and the country—needed courage. I know people disagree but we he shouldn’t be in the US Senate. Get another gig: https://t.co/fRkhT0t2Po— Julie Kelly 🇺🇸 (@julie_kelly2) July 15, 2020
