Gov. Whitmer says no money for the Michigan unemployed but finds money to build a fence/wall

Just recently President Trump offered states an additional $300 a week bump to the unemployed during the state induced economic shutdowns. He also asked for the Governors of each state to pitch in an extra $100 a week, Governor Whitmer refused to throw in that additional $100 a week for Michigan’s unemployed.

We now find out from reporting in the Detroit News that the Governor is going to spend $1.1 million in security upgrades to her residency which also interestingly will include the construction of a new perimeter fence/wall.

“Routine maintenance and upgrades are performed as needed to ensure the safety, security and protection of any sitting governor and the first family,” Whitmer spokeswoman Tiffany Brown said Friday.

The cost for the "current maintenance" at the Lansing residence, which was recommended by the Michigan State Police and the state Department of Technology, Management and Budget, is about $1.1 million, Brown said. It's being paid for with funds from the executive office budget, she added.
